It's 2 am, all is quiet when suddenly, a foot invades my space by tickling my leg. Groggily, I respond by turning over. Next thing I know, my wife is talking about how the coach is having trouble keeping the team focused. The team is squabling over trivial stuff. Joe and Mike want more playing time, but don't like to practice. Jared is grumbling about how he'd rather be playing with his friend Bruce. The Coach is thinking about retiring at the end of the year. Who do you think will make a good replacement coach? Did Scotty beam up my wife and replace her with some wacko sport nut? Nope.
This isn't pro sports talk, it's a typical night, day, or whenever in the life of parents with kids in youth sports.
Pro sports? Who needs all of the professionals silly childish squabbles over meaningless things like how many millions should some bozo be paid next year for playing a game. It all pales when there are real issues at stake -- you know, like "Should the coach of the 13 year old girl basketball team should be working on fundamentals or more scrimage?" "What do you think of Brent wearing an ear ring at practice?" "What did you get for the after game snacks, it's our week you know?" "Don't forget to pick up Sean on the way to the game, his mom has another chiropractor appointment and can't take him. It's like neither of Sean's parents have been at any of the games this year. What sort of an example of parenting is that?..."
These are REAL issues faced by millions of parents through out the youth sport year. Pro Sports, with all the whining on and off field, TV contracts, TV blackouts, umpires on strike, $30 tickets, .... who needs it... It's not like the pro sports can hold a candle to the real world issues that go on in the average youth sports league each year.
Some of this reality gets back to how the typical socialist public school these days is all about touchy feely non competition stuff. The only exposure many kids have of the rewards of hard work, how to win and how to lose is in youth sports. Yes, some PC idiots have tried to the youth sports and kids that it doesn't matter what the score is, or who is in first place. However, the only folks foolish enough to believe this PC junk are the PC idiots. The kids have it right from game 1 thru the end of the season. The kids know who won and who lost, and who caused the team to win, or lose. Thank God that some things in humans children are innate. Shoot, the kids even have the idea of winning right when it comes to pros. The average pro athelete will put dollars ahead of being on a winning team. The average kid couldn't be moved off a winning championship team for all the snacks in the world.
Perhaps, after the kids are out of youth sports, some appeal can be found in watching professional sports. Perhaps. Seems kind of far fetched at this point...
